Why do people, who are conditioned to dismiss and distrust each other, leave feeling more seen and like they have maybe solved the world’s problems in a single conversation?
I love the way this post identifies strengths of the Estuary discussion format, especially how it integrates levels of development. I'm one of the folks looking to re-start the Estuary here in the metro area of Washington DC. This will help.
Thanks, Teri! It's nice to have a set of integral eyes on it. I'm relatively new to the integral/developmental scene, and one thing I've noticed coming into it is how "green" it still is (pardon the jargon). There’s a lot of talk about transcendence, but when it comes to including the traditional worldview, it's crickets. Since this protocol has already proven itself to 'high-openness conservatives,' I wonder if it could be adopted as a neutral meeting ground for different tribes.
And by this protocol, Rigel, you mean Estuary, right? I'm with ya. However, I think you may be downplaying the level of skillful facilitation required. It takes a master to know when to nudge.,, and dedicated participants to take the hint.
Yes, Estuary. You may be right about the skill needed. I imagine I will find the edge of my own abilities in the near future! I'm glad to hear you'll be starting one up in DC.
Love this model, Rigel. Anything that breaks down the us vs them posture the algorithms encourage is fantastic — and much needed.
That would be great!

And I can honestly say that this piece has influenced my assessment of its value. So thanks for that.
